Troy’s Caleb Ransaw, Derrick Graham enter transfer portal

Troy safety Caleb Ransaw and offensive tackle Derrick Graham are entering the NCAA transfer portal, they each announced Tuesday.

Ransaw (6-foot, 197 pounds) started all 14 games this season for the Trojans at the “Spur” safety position, totaling 51 tackles, six tackles for loss, two pass breakups and an interception. A former Sparkman High School standout, he has one season of eligibility remaining.

Graham moved into the starting lineup for Troy as a redshirt sophomore in 2023, and scored the Trojans’ lone touchdown of last week’s 17-10 loss to Duke in the Birmingham Bowl on a 3-yard reception. The 6-foot-4, 314-pound native of Lake Minneola, Fla., has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Ransaw and Graham are the second and third Troy returning starters to enter the transfer portal since the end of the regular season. Linebacker Jayden McDonald, the Trojans’ leading tackler in 2023, left the team on Dec. 17, a little more than week after the departure of head coach Jon Sumrall to Tulane.

Ransaw’s departure means Troy will not return any full-time starters in its defensive backfield in 2024. Cornerbacks Reddy Steward and O’shai Fletcher and safety Dell Pettus were seniors with no eligibility remaining, while senior Irshaad Davis and junior Keyshawn Swanson split time at the other safety spot.

Defensive linemen A.J. Pierce and Buddha Jones and outside linebacker Richard Jibunor were also seniors in 2023, while defensive end Javon Solomon entered the NFL draft. Only Swanson, defensive end T.J. Jackson and inside linebackers Terry Thomas and Jordan Stringer — who split time opposite McDonald this season — among the Trojans’ top 14 tackles in 2023 have remaining eligibility and are still with the team.

Offensively for Troy, quarterback Gunnar Watson, wide receiver Deshon Stoudemire, tight end Clayton Ollendieck and right tackle Grant Betts were seniors in 2024, while running back Kimani Vidal elected to enter the NFL draft. Wide receivers Chris Lewis and Jabre Barber and offensive linemen Daniel King, Austin Blake and Eli Russ are among those who are eligible to return.

Troy hired former Notre Dame offensive coordinator Gerad Parker as head coach on Dec. 18. The Trojans have gone 24-5 the last two seasons, winning the Sun Belt Conference title both years.
